FAQ for Adobe Certificates

What is the Difference Between a Certificate and a Certification?

A certificate and a certification are two different types of qualifications. A certificate program provides training in a broad range of skills related to whatever you are studying. For instance, Noble Desktop offers a Digital Design Certificate, which covers many of the different skills you need to work as a digital designer. Certificate programs are offered at many colleges and universities, in addition to other types of schools such as online schools and tech schools.

A certification is different from a certificate because rather than learning a broad range of skills, you usually focus on a particular skill or set of skills. Certifications are also the same wherever you earn them, unlike certificate programs, which vary by school. Certifications are the same everywhere because they are standardized qualifications. To earn a certification, you usually have to pass an exam at an approved testing center. An example of a certification is the Adobe Illustrator Certification, which is earned by passing a 50-minute exam.

Should I Pursue a Certificate or a Certification?

Whether or not you should pursue a certificate or a certification depends on your career goals. If you want to learn a broad range of new skills that you can use in your career, then a certificate program might be a good choice. Many certificate programs are designed to prepare you to immediately start working in your chosen field. If you want to prove that you have mastered a specific skill, like a certain Adobe program, then a certification might be the right choice. A certification is standardized, and any potential employer or client who sees it will be able to understand exactly what it means.

Do I Need to Become Certified to Find a Job?

There are situations when an employer wants a particular certification, but, in most cases, you don’t need to get certified to find a job. However, while it is not usually required, certification can still be a good idea, because it can help you stand out from your competition. Certiport is a certification exam provider, and explains, “A voluntary certification is also seen as evidence of an individual’s personal drive and motivation, giving them a leg up for raises and promotions.”

What Certificate Program is Right for Me?

Which is Better: In-Person or Online Classes

In-person classes take place in-person, with a live instructor and a room full of other students, and in a classroom that is dedicated to learning. In the recent past, almost all learning took place in-person. Many people still find it to be the easiest way to learn something new, and also the least distracting and most engaging environment. When you learn in-person, you can ask questions and get feedback whenever you need to. You also have the opportunity to interact with your fellow students, which can enhance the learning process and lead to networking opportunities. However, in-person learning requires that you are physically present at a specific time, and in a specific place, which doesn’t work for everybody. For that reason, online classes have become increasingly popular in recent years. Online classes allow you to attend without leaving your house. You can sign up for an online class in any part of the country, or even the world, which means a lot more choices. Online classes can also be a great option for students who are uncomfortable learning in a room full of other people.

Which is Better: Live Online or Asynchronous Classes?

There are two common online class formats: live online and asynchronous. As the name suggests, live online classes take place live, but rather than attending in-person, you attend by logging in on your computer. While you still have to attend at the scheduled class time, you don’t have to commute anywhere. One of the major benefits of live online classes is that you still get live instruction and real-time interaction with your instructor and fellow students. Another common format is an asynchronous, or on-demand class. This type of class is prerecorded rather than live. Students can take lessons whenever they want to, and can work at their own pace. This flexibility is one of the biggest benefits of asynchronous learning. Additionally, asynchronous classes are often less expensive, since there is no live instructor.
